A rose-coloured macular or maculopapular rash appearing as a manifestation of various, mainly infectious, diseases; an instance of this. Also: a disease accompanied by such a rash; spec. (more fully roseola infantilis or (now usually) roseola infantum) a common acute disease of young children characterized by sudden high fever and a rash which appears after the fever has broken, associated esp. with human herpesvirus 6 infection. Also called rose rash.
