Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Urdu. Etymon: Urdu ronaq.
Etymology: Apparently < Urdu ronaq lustre (or its cognate in a related language) < Persian raunaq < Arabic raunaq, all in the same sense.For the circumstances of the English coinage, compare the following:1982 A.
