Origin: A borrowing from Romani. Etymon: Romani romani.
Etymology: < Romani romani, feminine singular of romanō (adjective) of or relating to the Roma, like the Roma < Rom Rom n.2 + -anō -an suffix. Compare French romani (1845 denoting the language, 1883 denoting a member of the Roma people), romano member of the Roma people (1859). With sense A. 2 compare Romani romani čib Romani language.Although Romani is now the preferred form in official and scholarly use, Romany is still common, especially in non-scholarly use.
