Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French Roquefort, Rocquefort.
Etymology: < French Roquefort, †Rocquefort (1642) < the name of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon (formerly also Rocquefort), a town in the Aveyron department in southern France, where the cheese is produced.In β. forms apparently influenced by Rochefort, the name of several places in France. Such forms are not found in French.
