Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymon: tink int.
Etymology: Reduplication (with variation of initial consonant and suffixation of the first element: see -y suffix6) of tink int. Compare earlier tink-a-tink at tink int., tinkle v.1, tinkly adj., etc. Compare also earlier (in different sense) rinky-dink n.
slang (chiefly U.S.).

Having a simple, repetitive style and rhythm; spec. designating a tinkling, jangling style of piano music, or a piano playing this. Cf. ricky-tick adj.In quot. 1906: spec. designating a poet who writes simple, unimaginative poetry with a repetitive rhythm.
