单词 rigmarie
释义

rigmarien.

Brit. /rɪɡməˈriː/, U.S. /ˌrɪɡməˈri/, Scottish English /rɪɡməˈri/
Forms: 1600s Rig-Marie, 1800s rigmaree, 1800s rigmarie.
Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin reg. Maria, regina Maria.
Etymology: Apparently < post-classical Latin reg. Maria, graphic abbreviation for regina Maria, literally ‘queen Mary’ (presumably with reference to Mary, Queen of Scots), forming part of the legend on a coin of small value, although the coin concerned has not been reliably identified. Sc. National Dict. (at cited word) records the word as still in use in Kirkcudbrightshire in 1900.
Scottish. Now rare.
A coin of very small value; (hence in negative constructions) a thing having little or no value.
