Etymology: < German Ryakolith (G. Rose 1829 in Annalen der Physik und Chemie 15 206) < ancient Greek ῥυακ- , ῥύαξ mountain-stream, lava-stream ( < the base of ῥεῖν to flow (see rheid n.) + -αξ , suffix forming nouns) + German -o- -o- connective + -lith -lite comb. form¹, with remodelling of the ending after -lite comb. form¹.

Mineralogy. Now historical and rare.

A feldspar occurring chiefly as white or colourless crystals in volcanic rocks, subsequently identified with sanidine.
