Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French rhodoïd.
Etymology: < French rhodoïd (c1917) < rhod- (in classical Latin Rhodanus , the name of the River Rhône: see Rhone n.) + -oïd -oid suffix (perhaps after celluloïd celluloid n.); the name reflects the introduction of the product by the French chemical and pharmaceutical company Rhône-Poulenc .
