Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin rhizomat- , rhizoma , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < scientific Latin rhizomat-, rhizoma rhizoma n. + -ic suffix. With sense 1 compare earlier rhizomatous adj. In sense 2 after French rhizomatique rhizome-like, non-hierarchical (first used in this sense by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in the 1970s).
