Etymology: < rheo- comb. form + -phobic comb. form, either after rheophile adj. or rheophilic adj., or after German rheophob rheophobe adj. Compare slightly earlier rheophobe adj.
Chiefly Zoology.
Of an organism: that inhabits or prefers an environment of still rather than flowing water.
