Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin revalēscere , -ence suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin revalēscere to regain one's strength, get well again, (of consciousness) to revive ( < re- re- prefix + valēscere to become sound in health < valēre vail v.1 + -ēscere : see -escent suffix) + -ence suffix, probably after convalescence n., reconvalescence n. Compare post-classical Latin revalescentia (16th cent.). Compare later revalescent adj.
