Golden Friday n. Christian Church (a name for) a Friday reserved for fasting and prayer in the Western Church; (sometimes spec.) each of the Fridays falling in the spring, summer, and autumn Ember Days (see ember n.²).In quot. 1533 the phrase the three golden Fridays (with allusion to the three Ember days called Golden Fridays) is used facetiously to refer to Good Friday alone.
