Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin retrōcess- , retrōcēdere , -ive suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin retrōcess-, past participial stem of retrōcēdere retrocede v. + -ive suffix, after retrocession n., retrocede v. Compare post-classical Latin retrocessivus retrograde (c1270 in a British source), French rétrocessif (1842).
