Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from French. Etymons: Latin reverberant-, reverberāns, reverberāre; French reverberant, reverberer.
Etymology: Either < classical Latin reverberant-, reverberāns, present participle of reverberāre reverberate v., or (in sense 1) < Middle French reverberant, present participle of reverberer (see reverberate v.). With sense 2 compare reverberating adj., reverberate adj. 3.
1. Heraldry. Of the tail of an animal, esp. a lion: turned up in the shape of the letter S, with the end facing outwards; = reboundant adj. Obsolete.
