reported speech n. the words of one speaker relayed by another, esp. in a subordinate clause which is (in English) governed by a reporting verb with the pronouns and tense adjusted to the viewpoint of the person reporting.More general usage of the term includes both direct and indirect speech, although a more restricted sense, equivalent only to indirect speech, is often intended.
