单词 resinite
释义

resiniten.

Brit. /ˈrɛzᵻnʌɪt/, /ˈrɛzn̩ʌɪt/, U.S. /ˈrɛzənaɪt/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: resin n., -ite suffix1.
Etymology: < resin n. + -ite suffix1. In sense 1 after French résinite, adjective ( R. J. Haüy Traité de minéral. (1801) II. 433 in quartz résinite ; the use as noun is apparently not paralleled until slightly later (1808 or earlier)). In sense 2 apparently after German Resinit (H. Lebach 1909, in Zeitschr. f. angewandte Chem. 22 1598/1); although quot. 1919 suggests that this sense originated in English, no supporting evidence has been found (in particular, abstracts of early patents granted to Story do not contain resinite or a similar word). Compare slightly later resite n.
1. Mineralogy. Originally: (more fully quartz-resinite) a siliceous material of resinous or opaline appearance. In later use: fossilized resin, esp. as a constituent (maceral) of coal, in which it typically occurs as elliptical or spindle-shaped bodies.
