Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Probably partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin renunciativus ; renunciate v., -ive suffix.
Etymology: Originally < post-classical Latin renunciativus serving to announce or to enunciate (13th cent.; < classical Latin renuntiāt- , past participial stem of renuntiāre renounce v. + -īvus -ive suffix). In later use probably also partly < renunciate v. + -ive suffix.
