Etymology: < post-classical Latin reptibilis reptile (4th cent. in Jerome), use as noun of reptibilis that creeps (though this is apparently first attested later: 6th cent. in Boethius) < classical Latin rept- , past participial stem of repere to creep (see repent adj.2) + -ibilis -ible suffix. Compare reptile n.1
