Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin repropitiation- , repropitiatio ; re- prefix, propitiation n.
Etymology: Either < post-classical Latin repropitiation-, repropitiatio propitiation, atonement (Vetus Latina; from 12th cent. in British sources; < repropitiat-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of repropitiare repropitiate v. + classical Latin -iō -ion suffix1), or < re- prefix + propitiation n. (probably after repropitiate v.).
Obsolete. rare.
The state of being restored to favour; the action or an act of propitiating a person, etc., again.
