Etymology: < re- prefix + ingest v. Compare slightly earlier reingestion n.
Chiefly Zoology.
transitive. To ingest (material which has been ejected or secreted from the body); spec. (of a mammal) to eat (its own excrement) to allow secondary digestion (cf. reingestion n.).
