Etymology: < Middle French redolent fragrant, sweet-smelling (c1330) or its etymon classical Latin redolent-, redolēns, present participle of redolēre to give off a smell, to be fragrant or odorous < red- , variant (before a vowel) of re- re- prefix + olēre to emit a smell (see olent adj.).
