Etymology: < Middle French, French †redituaire (1566 in the passage translated in quot. 1607) and its etymon post-classical Latin redituarius person to whom rents are due (in an undated source in Du Cange) < classical Latin reditus revenue ( < redit- , past participial stem of redīre (see redient adj.) + -us , suffix forming verbal nouns) + -ārius -ary suffix¹.

Church History. Obsolete.

A member of an order of friars entitled to hold land and possessions. Contrasted with mendicant.
