单词 dodder
释义

doddern.

Brit. /ˈdɒdə/, U.S. /ˈdɑdər/
Forms: Also Middle English–1500s doder.
Etymology: perhaps Common West Germanic, though not known in Old English, Old Saxon, or Old High German Middle English doder = Middle Low German doder, dodder, Middle High German toter, modern German dotter, Dutch and Danish dodder, Swedish dodra. Similarity of form has suggested connection with German dotter, Middle High German toter, Old High German totoro, tutaro, Middle Dutch doder(e yolk of an egg, as if with reference to the colour of the flower-clusters of Cuscuta europæa; but this is a doubtful conjecture.
1. The common name of the genus Cuscuta, family Convolvulaceæ, comprising slender leafless plants, like masses of twining threads, parasitic on flax, clover, thyme, furze, and other plants.
