Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French réchauffer.
Etymology: < Middle French, French réchauffer to warm up, heat (c1170 in Old French), to warm up again, reheat (1265), to rehash, rework (1671 as past participial adjective: see réchauffé adj.) < re- re- prefix + échauffer eschaufe v. Compare earlier eschaufe v., achafe v., and chafe v.There is also some currency of a verb rechauffé ( < réchauffé adj. or its etymon French réchauffé ; compare also réchauffer v.):1887 Times 28 Sept. 12/2 The eminent financiers who are rechaufféing the Reading carcass have no particular interest in it.2003 D.
