Etymology: < re- prefix + acquire v., perhaps originally after French racquérir (a1585 in Middle French; compare earlier Old French, Middle French raquerre ; compare also later French réacquérir (1845)). Compare post-classical Latin reacquirere (c1250, c1400 in British sources). Compare slightly later reacquist v.
