Origin: Probably a variant or alteration of another lexical item; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: repose v.1; repose v.2
Etymology: Probably partly an alteration of repose v.1 (compare repose v.1 6) and partly an alteration of repose v.2 (compare repose v.2 2), by analysis of both as showing formations from re- prefix and either appose v.2 (although this is first attested later) or its etymon Middle French apposer.
1. transitive. To repose or place. Also intransitive with passive meaning. Obsolete.Usually with immaterial object.
