Etymology: < scientific Latin Physophora Physophora n. + -ous suffix. N.E.D.(1906) gives the pronunciation as (fəisǫ·fŏrəs) /faɪˈsɒfərəs/.
Botany and Zoology. Obsolete. rare.
Having a bladder-like part; spec. (a) (of a plant) having perianths which persist in a swollen state after the fruit have formed, as in certain members of the genus Suaeda; (b) (of a siphonophore) belonging to the former group Physophora.
