Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin rāmex.
Etymology: < classical Latin rāmex varicocele, swelling of the testis < the same base as rāmus branch (see ramus n.); the ending may be influenced by varix varix n.
Medicine. Obsolete.
A hernia; spec. an inguinal hernia extending into the scrotum. Also: a varicocele or hydrocele. In early use also with distinguishing Latin word.
