Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin rāmeus , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin rāmeus of or belonging to a branch, in post-classical Latin also (of a leaf, flower) borne directly on a branch (1751; < rāmus branch (see ramus n.) + -eus : see -eous suffix) + -ous suffix. Compare earlier (in different sense) ramous adj. N.E.D. (1903) gives the pronunciation as (rēi·miˌəs) /ˈreɪmiːəs/.
Botany. Obsolete. rare.
