Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi ras malāī.
Etymology: < Hindi ras malāī < ras juice ( < Sanskrit rasa rasa n.1) + malāī cream (ultimately < Sanskrit maṇḍa scum, cream). Compare earlier rasgulla n.
In Indian cookery: a type of dessert consisting of balls or patties of pressed milk curds served in a sweet, milk-based sauce. Cf. rasgulla n.
