Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Rambouillet.
Etymology: < Rambouillet, the name of a town in the Île-de-France (department of Yvelines).The reason for the name of the peach is unclear. The chateau of Rambouillet was acquired by Louis XVI in 1783. He established a royal sheep farm, where the breed (see sense 2) was developed from 1786.
