1780 Boyer's Dictionnaire Royal (rev. ed.) I. 73/2 Bec-de-Corbin, a rave-hook or ripping iron or an instrument with which the caulkers take the oakum out of the seams.

1972 Industr. Archaeol. 9 407 In this country in recent times it is known as the ‘Hoe’ or ‘Rake’, but in the USA it is still called the ‘Rave Hook’, another example of an old word which is obsolete here, but surviving on the other side of the Atlantic.
