Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps a variant of, or a typographical error for, ruffler n.1 Compare later raffle v.3English regional raffler worthless person (recorded chiefly from Yorkshire in the 19th cent.: see Eng. Dial. Dict. at raffle sb.2, adj., v.2) apparently shows a different word ( < English regional (Yorkshire) raffle to lead a dissolute life (one isolated 19th-cent. attestation; < raffle n.2) + -er suffix1).
Obsolete. rare.
A quarrelsome person, a person who makes a disturbance. Cf. ruffler n.1 2.
