Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: ting int., -a- ; ting-a-ring int.
Etymology: Either (i) reduplicated < ting int., with insertion of -a-, connective, and variation of initial consonants (perhaps after ding-a-ling int.), or (ii) an alteration (with consonant variation) of ting-a-ring int.

Representing the sound of the repeated ringing of a small bell, or a sound resembling or imitating this. Cf. ding-a-ling int.
