Etymology: < post-classical Latin quadrifarius fourfold (4th cent.; < classical Latin quadri- quadri- comb. form + post-classical Latin -farius : see bifarious adj.) + -ous suffix. Compare classical Latin quadrifāriam in four ways, in a fourfold manner.Compare earlier use of post-classical Latin quadrifarie (adverb) in an English context:1607 B.
