Etymology: < ancient Greek πυρώδης like fire, fiery ( < πῦρ fire (see pyro- comb. form) + -ώδης -ode comb. form1) + -in suffix1.
Pharmacology. Now disused.
A medicinal preparation containing or consisting of acetylphenylhydrazine, CH3CO·NH·NHC6H5, formerly used as an antipyretic and in the treatment of polycythaemia.

1954 E. H. Rodd Chem. Carbon Compounds III. a. 356 β-acetylphenylhydrazine, first introduced as an antiseptic, ‘pyrodine’, is as effective and less toxic.
