Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French querimonie; Latin querimōnia.
Etymology: < Middle French querimonie (late 14th cent. as querymone ; French quérimonie ) and its etymon classical Latin querimōnia expression of grievance, complaint, protest < querī to complain (see querulous adj.) + -mōnia -mony comb. form. Compare Old Occitan querimonia (13th cent.; Occitan querimonia), Catalan querimònia (1292), Spanish querimonia (1257), Portuguese querimonia (1254), Italian querimonia (a1313).
Obsolete.
Complaining; a complaint. Also: †an expression of grief or sorrow.
