单词 pulza oil
释义

pulza oiln.

Brit. /ˈpʊlzə(r) ˌɔɪl/, U.S. /ˈpʊlzə ˌɔɪl/
Origin: Apparently formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: an element of uncertain origin, oil n.1
Etymology: < a first element of uncertain origin, perhaps a misapprehension of Cape Verdean Creole pulga fruit of the physic nut bush (probably < Portuguese purgueira , although this is apparently first attested later: 1882) + oil n.1 For the connection between pulza oil and the Cape Verde Islands compare quot. 1866. D. J. Mabberley Plant-bk. (ed. 2, 1997) 598 takes the first element as a name for the physic nut (see physic nut n.); however, there appears to be no independent evidence for this sense. The Portuguese name of the physic nut is purgueira ( < purgar purge v.1 + -eira , feminine of -eiro : see -ary suffix1), the plant being so called on account of the purgative properties of its seeds. The corresponding name of the plant (as opposed to its fruit) in Cape Verdean Creole is pulgera.
A non-edible oil obtained from the seeds of the physic nut, Jatropha curcas, used commercially as an ingredient of bio-diesel and in the manufacture of soap and candles.
