1. Originally Criminals' slang. Of a crime: planned in advance by conspiracy with other persons, esp. with the assistance of someone on the premises where it occurred; (more generally, of an event, etc.) arranged beforehand in order to deceive someone; preconcerted. Frequently in put-up job. Cf. to put up 10 at put v. Phrasal verbs 1.
