Forms: 1600s pulpatoone, 1700s– pulpatoon.
Origin: Probably a borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian polpettone.
Etymology: Probably < Italian polpettone (see pupton n., and compare French poulpeton at that entry). Compare later pupton n., with which the word is apparently sometimes confused (e.g. in quot. 1991).
Now archaic or historical.
A dish made of rabbits, game birds, etc., in a crust of forcemeat. Cf. pupton n.
