Etymology: < classical Latin pūrgābilis (of a fruit) readily separable from its husk, in post-classical Latin also expiable (from 12th cent. in British sources) < pūrgāre purge v.1 + -bilis -ble suffix. Compare later purgeable adj. and forms at that entry.
Obsolete.
Capable of being, or needing to be, purged.
