Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: abnodate v., -ion suffix1.
Etymology: < abnodate v. + -ion suffix1; compare -ation suffix. N.E.D. (1884) gives a Latin form abnōdātiō and Phillips says the word is of Latin origin (see quot. 1658), but no evidence for this form has been found.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
The action of removing knots from or pruning trees.
