Etymology: Either < ancient Greek ψώρα itch, mange, (also) a disease of trees (see psora n.) + -osis suffix, or perhaps directly < Byzantine Greek ψώρωσις mange, scurvy.

Plant Pathology.

A virus disease of citrus plants which causes scaly patches or small pustules and gummy deposits to develop on the bark, beneath which the wood becomes stained.

1926 H. H. Hume Cultivation of Citrus Fruits xxix. 469 Psorosis is a scaly gum bark disease present in both California and Florida, principally on orange, tangerine, and grapefruit trees.
