Origin: A borrowing from Panjabi. Etymon: Panjabi pagṛī.
Etymology: < Panjabi pagṛī (compare also Hindi pagṛī and similar forms in a number of South Asian languages) turban, head, mark of distinction, of unknown origin.In three-syllable forms reflecting earlier pagarī, paggarī (no longer reflected in the Panjabi orthography, but still the perceived pronunciation, and standard in some other South Asian languages).
