Etymology: < puff n. + bird n.
Any of numerous perching birds that constitute the tropical American family Bucconidae and have large heads, heavy bills, and lax plumage which gives them a stout appearance.The puffbirds have traditionally been placed in the order Piciformes, but they and the jacamars are now often placed in a separate order, Galbuliformes.
