IV. 310), both plural nouns, both < Hellenistic Greek πτερυγώδης winglike (already in ancient Greek as noun, denoting an emaciated person whose shoulder blades stick out like wings) < πτερυγ- , πτέρυξ wing (see pterygo- comb. form) + -ώδης -ode comb. form¹.The form pterygodum shows an inferred singular of the scientific Latin plural noun.
