Etymology: < proto- comb. form + -logue comb. form (see quot. 1905).
Taxonomy (chiefly Botany).
The type description of a species, genus, etc. In later use: spec. the full details (diagnosis, description, synonymy, distributional data, citation of specimens, etc.) accompanying a name at its first publication.
