Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Perhaps also partly formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: Greek ψευδόδοξος ; pseudo- comb. form, paradox n.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek ψευδόδοξος holding a false opinion < ancient Greek ψευδο- pseudo- comb. form + δόξα opinion (see doxology n.). As noun perhaps formed independently < pseudo- comb. form + -dox (in paradox n.; compare quot. 1601 at sense A.).
