Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin prosyllogismus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin prosyllogismus syllogism the conclusion of which forms the major or minor premise of another syllogism (6th cent. in Boethius; 14th cent. in British sources) < ancient Greek προσυλλογισμός < προ- pro- prefix2 + συλλογισμός syllogism n. Compare French prosyllogism (1611 in Cotgrave), and also Middle French prossyllogisme (see prossyllogism n.).
Logic.
A syllogism the conclusion of which forms the major or minor premise of another syllogism. Cf. prossyllogism n.
