Etymology: < Middle French profluvion (a1592) and its etymon classical Latin prōfluvium copious flow or discharge < prōfluere to flow forth (see profluent adj.) + -ium, neuter of -ius, suffix forming adjectives. Compare Italian profluvio (1494).With the form profluvion compare classical Latin -luviōn- , -luviō combining form (in e.g. colluviō (see colluvies n.), dīluviō diluvion n.) beside -luvium.
Now rare.
A copious flow or discharge, esp. of bodily fluids. Also figurative.
